Eastern Washtenaw school districts have the unique distinction of being
geographically located close to several major universities and colleges.
Our districts have partnered
with the University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan
University, Wayne State University and Washtenaw Community College to
expand our students
and teachers educational experience.
Regional Career and Technical Center (RCTC)
The following state approved career and technical education programs are available to high school students in the Lincoln, Willow Run and Ypsilanti Public Schools through the Regional Career Technical Center (RCTC) for the 2007-08 school year: Collision Repair, Health Occupations, Graphic Arts, Auto Mechanics, Child Care, Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management, Construction Tech, Computer Systems Tech. http://www.ypsd.org/schools/rctc/index.html
Dual Enrollment Program
High School students continue to take advantage of the dual enrollment program that is made possible through the Post-secondary Enrollment Options Act of 1996. This act allows high school students to enroll in college level courses for credit at Washtenaw Community College and Eastern Michigan University.

Lead Summer Program
A national partnership of America's top corporations and business schools, the Leadership Education and Development Program in Business (LEAD) is at the forefront of building a talented and diverse workforce ready for the business environment. Encouraging outstanding high school juniors from diverse backgrounds to pursue careers in business, LEAD is inspiring a new generation of business leaders.

U-M Summer Science Institute and Math Academy
The University of Michigan has linked with Ypsilanti Public Schools to create two dynamic summer programs. East and West Middle School students have participated in the U-M Summer Science Institute, a two-week program that introduces students to the intriguing world of science. The U-M also conducted a two-week Math Academy for fifth-grade students that challenged students with fractions, problem solving and math concepts.

Piquing the interest of students to consider careers in engineering is the catalyst for a partnership formed in 2006 between the U-M College of Engineering and YPS.

Eastern Michigan University
The Early College AllianceSM (ECA) is a new, public early/middle college program on the campus of Eastern Michigan University in partnership with local school districts, Washtenaw Intermediate School District and EMU.
Early College Alliance at Eastern Michigan University
The EMU Gear Up project is funded by the U.S. Department of Education to help students in Wayne Westland, Ypsilanti, and Willow Run School Districts attend college. 50% of our program is funded by the United States Department of Education, 50% by EMU, school district and community partners.

Willow Run District has partnerships with Eastern Michigan University include pre-student and student teacher placements, 21st Century after school program, Science workshops for 4/5th grade students through the Chemistry department, special events for students and families through the athletic department

Washtenaw Community College
Articulation Tech Prep
Through the Washtenaw Community College Articulation Project, an agreement between Ypsilanti Public Schools and Washtenaw Community College, qualifying YHS students are eligible to receive advanced college credit for courses taken in the Business Education Department at Ypsilanti High School. This recognizes that skills and competencies are developed through successful completion of specific coursework at the secondary level.

College Is My Future
Eighth grade students from both Ypsilanti middle schools spend five consecutive Fridays in the fall and spring visiting the Washtenaw Community College campus. Students participate in music, science, graphic and culinary arts classes taught by college instructors. Giving students a vision for their future vocation is the objective of the program.
Wayne State University - The Center for Urban & African American Health (CUUAH)
Wayne State partners in the Willow Run district annual Health Fair - CUUAH does hypertension training, diabetic awareness, and cooking without SALT!

First Steps Washtenaw

SAE Foundation (A WIM)
The A World in Motion® curriculum joins together teachers, students, and industry volunteers in an exploration of physical science while addressing essential mathematic and scientific concepts and skills. Health Education Partners in Education (HOPE)
The HOPE program focus is to increase secondary students' interest in health and science careers. Students participate in a variety of activities designed to provide academic support, education enrichment, college preparation and career exploration opportunities.
TeenBiz
TEENBIZ: Teens in Business through the Arts take place during the summer months of each year. The Center for Community Building and Civic Engagement, located under the Institute for the Study of Children, Families and Communities (ISCFC), and the Washtenaw County MICHIGAN WORKS! work in partnership with the Ypsilanti High School and other local high schools in Washtenaw County in the development and implementation of this program. Eligibility for participation in this program is limited to youth who qualify for the Washtenaw County MICHIGAN WORKS! Employment Program, and it targets youth ages 14-18.
