The "computer service request" system allows users to report technology problems to the technology department. Progress on service requests can be tracked by the end user. You must have an active and valid WISD Network account to use the system. If you do not have an account then please call x1286 to have a CSR account created.
What is Citrix?
Citrix is a server-based computing system that enables users to run applications and full Windows desktop that normally would not be available to them on their local machines. The applications reside on a secure server and are accessed only with a WISD user account through the WISD Citrix login page. This method allows users access to their applications and data files, whenever and wherever they are needed.
The Citrix Advantage
- WISD Users can access their personal WISD/Citrix desktop settings, applications, and data files using any computer, from any location.
- Older computers that could no longer handle running updated and advanced Windows-based applications can be used as remote desktops regardless of their hardware or operating system. This reduces the need for the continual purchase of new computers and excess/expensive software licenses by either the WISD or individual users.
- It is cost-effective to the agency since the applications do not have to be installed on each computer. They reside on the Citrix server and can be accessed with a WISD network account. This reduces the amount of time necessary for computer maintenance, software deployment, upgrades and security work.
Citrix Good Practices
- Logoff: Please make sure to "logoff" once finished with your Citrix session. To properly logoff, go to the 'Start Menu -> Logoff -> Ok'. Closing the window or selecting 'Start Menu -> Disconnect' will merely disconnect you, which means that your session is idled and still using system resources and any files that you may have left open. This could result in file locking problems and possible data lose.
- One Click Only - When Starting a Citrix Session. When you launch your Citrix session from the WISD Citrix Logon web page, only click ONCE on the "WISD Citrix Desktop" icon. Please don't double-click the icon. In rare cases, when this icon is double-clicked, a duplicate session can start. You won't see the 2nd session, as it's hidden by the 1st, but it will affect reconnecting to any disconnected session later.
- Saving Files: To enhance your Citrix experience, we recommend you save your data on your H: drive or in any Groups directory you may have. A large Citrix profile (anything on your Citrix desktop or saved as favorites) will greatly affect the speed of your log in and log off process. Please contact extension 1286 for more information.
- Suspend: Citrix servers are set to Suspend a user session after 30 minutes and Terminate the session if the session is idle (no activity) after 3 hours. We have limited licenses, so please do not stay logged on unnecessarily. If you Suspend and then allow your session to Terminate while your files are opened, you might end up with file locking problems and/or unsaved files. It is always best to log off your session after saving and closing any open files or programs.
- Problems? If a session freezes so that you cannot properly log off, you should call 1286 so that a technician can terminate your session properly.
